Race Report: Snetterton 2008
Mind the Gap

Technosport’s second outing this year saw the team travel to Snetterton race circuit in Norfolk. This would be the first time the car would really be able to put its power down since a complete rebuild throughout 2007, and what a rollercoaster it was!!!

The team started testing on Friday. Guest driver this time was Motorbase’s BTCC regular Steven Kane who managed to set a very respectable time of 1:13 round the Norfolk circuit. At the end of the day the team was very pleased with their progress and how the car have stood up to it’s first real dry test.

As Saturday and the race loomed the car was again rolled out for 30 minutes of qualifying. The previous days uninterrupted testing was stopped short by the sequential gearbox totally failing. The team’s elation was a little premature, as they then had to work furiously to get the car ready for the race in the next 2 hours!

The team worked flat out and managed to completely replace the gearbox in the time allotted, but the Technosport BMW M3 would have to start from the back of the grid as a qualifying time was not set.

The cars formed up on the grid for the rolling start of the 4 hour endurance event, which this time would be driven completely by George Agyeton. As the lights of the pace car went out Agyeton readied himself for the familiar chaos which ensued at the beginning of any motor race.

As the pace car pulled in and the 29 strong grid blasted by the pits with the Technosport car passing 5 cars before the end of the first lap.....the BMW was flying. After one hour and a pit stop the Technosport BMW was already up to 25 overall and 4th in class. At the halfway stage Agyeton through a feat of terminator like endurance and unbelievable driving talent managed to put the Technosport car up to 21st overall and 2nd in class, with a best time of 1:13 the same of Steven Kane, but could it get any better?

By the third hour and no failures the BMW M3 moved up to 17th overall, but the team tempted fate as they thought they were closing down the class leader, a holed radiator

meant the car was forced to retire 30 minutes from the end of the race, but posted a 1:12 and recorded fastest lap in class.

When asked were you upset by the results Agyeton said ”Dissappointing....NO WAY, the car performed amazing out there. Not only did it run faultlessly until the end, but it was also a whole 4 seconds faster than the next quickest car in our class and one tenth quicker than the race pace of the class above!!! I couldn’t be any happier with the car’s performance and the team’s dedication this weekend.”

The next race for the Technosport team will be on the May bank holiday weekend at Brand Hatch Grand Prix circuit as the support race for A1GP
